The project, titled Youth Work: memory and intangible heritage (YW-MIH), is a mobility project for youth workers (KA153-YOU-F8C79D72).
The project is implemented over 18 months, running from 01/01/2025 to 30/06/2026.
Activities
The project implemented one main mobility activity, the Professional Development Activity (PDAMS01), named “Creating memory and intangible heritage with podcast and radio in youth work”. This main activity consisted of a six-day training course held in Italy (in Cesena and Mercato Saraceno, province of Forlì-Cesena) from 09.15.2025 to 09.20.2025, involving a total of 18 people.
During the training course, the following specific sessions and activities were implemented, focusing on using podcasts and web radio as tools for youth work and for building local and intangible heritage:
- Introduction to podcast formats and structure.
- Storyboarding and scriptwriting in podcast production.
- Podcast and digital radio for youth participation.
- Technical aspects of podcast production, including managing equipment and using dedicated software like Audacity.
- Recording a structured podcast and recording sounds of the natural environment.
- Publishing and promoting podcasts (using platforms like Spotify, Apple Podcast, and digital tools like Headliner and Canva).
- The session “Our Week & Organisations in Podcasts” to share experiences and organizations through podcasting.
Additionally, follow-up and dissemination activities were foreseen to ensure the sustainability of the results, including:
- Creation of a webpage, social media presence, and a podcast channel for disseminating project results and experiences.
- Mentoring and coaching to support participants in implementing new projects based on the skills acquired in their communities.
- Sharing good practices and establishing an international network of youth projects, particularly in small communities.
- Use of virtual tools such as Microsoft Teams and Padlet for collaboration before, during, and after the activity.
Goals
The YW-MIH project aimed to contribute to the building of common memory and European intangible heritage, using podcasting and web radio as innovative tools. Specific objectives that were achieved include:
- The European intangible heritage in youth work was enhanced, by sharing good practices and facilitating participation processes.
- Knowledge and skills were increased among youth workers, teachers, and young people regarding the contribution to common memory and intangible heritage, using podcasts as a tool for working with young people.
- The effective and conscious use of digital tools and social media was improved, promoting a healthy “digital culture”.
- Technical competencies (hard skills) in podcasting (recording, editing) and transferable skills (soft skills) related to organizing a podcast series or web radio (creative thinking, communication, teamwork, and leadership) were enhanced.
- Greater engagement of young people in relevant issues (such as civic participation, social inclusion, and intercultural learning) was promoted through accessible audio content.
- Collaboration and networking among youth workers and teachers from different European countries were strengthened.
- Support was provided to small communities and rural areas in youth activation and participation, helping them develop local memory and a sense of belonging.
